As summer takes hold, it’s time to think ahead to one the best family summer holiday experiences at Sidmouth FolkWeek (4th – 11th August), offering something for all the family – from tinies to teens to adults! From its early years, the festival has always had an eye on the future, providing high quality entertainment and opportunities to participate for all ages.
From Saturday onwards, Blackmore Gardens is the beating heart of the fantastic Children’s Festival. The hub for family-based fun is a wonderful place to come along to relax and enjoy superb entertainment from the Garden Stage. The Gardens are a hive of fun, colour and activity with Young Performers’ Showcases, walkabout entertainment, the ever-popular Marble Maze and Do It Yourself Puppet Theatre, Pop Up Performances, Dance Displays, Parachute Games, Face Painting and a host of other family entertainment.
Blackmore Gardens is also the location for The Major, Midi and Minor Marquees in which children can get involved with Crazy Crafts, Crafty Fun, The Craft Carousel, Mini Crafts, Messy Crafts, Morris Dancing, Yoga, Music, Stories, Children’s Festival Torchlight Processional Build and much, much more.

On This Island is an intricate weaving together of stories from Ursula Holden Gill’s favourite Celtic folk tales, songs, clog and morris dances along with her own contemporary stories.
Snapshot Productions present their Jellyvision Show – a fast-moving, visual, funny, interactive theatre show with a true pantomime vibe, music, slapstick and magic.
The ever-popular Fabulous Family Medley provides a treasure trove of music, song, story, fun, laughter and much, much more from festival guests and performers.
Zulu Tradition from KwaZulu Natal deliver a heady mix of African harmonies and high-energy, athletic dance.
The Super Stomping Evening Ceilidh in Blackmore Gardens Marquee with the Sidmouth Seaside Stompers Ceilidh Band with caller Martyn Harvey, plus some very special guest spots, offers an exciting finale for the Family Evening Performances.
Getting the most out of your holiday
To make the most out of Sidmouth FolkWeek’s Children’s Festival at the best possible price, purchase a children’s season ticket for the week. This gives priority access to all events in the Children’s Programme, space permitting.
Students (18+), Youths (12-17) and Children (6-11) are all offered discounted tickets. Children 5 and under free.
Buy at least one Adult ticket and pay for one Youth (12-17) or Child (6-11) and the next Child ticket is FREE.
