What a great night! The annual BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards at Royal Albert Hall was held last night, with some of the folk world’s very finest talents walking away with awards acknowledging their contributions to music. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees, so many of whom are appearing at Sidmouth FolkWeek this summer from 4th – 11th August 2017.

Winners appearing on our 2017 bill include: Best Group – ‘a masterclass in folk tradition’ The Furrow Collective; Musician of the Year – the hauntingly beautiful harp sounds of Rachel Newton; Kris Drever of musical adventurists Lau Folk Singer Of The Year and Best Original Track ‘If Wishes Were Horses’; Ireland’s fast-rising vocal star Daoirí Farrell – both Horizon Award and Best Traditional Track ‘Van Diemen’s Land’.

2017 nominees featured in the line-up include: Martin Green of Lau for Best Album ‘Flit’ and Best Original Track ’Roll Away’; Devon’s creamiest singer Jim Causley for Folk Singer Of The Year; the electrifying concertina master Mohsen Amini (appearing with Ímar) for Musician Of The Year; Best Duo – the classy stylings of Josienne Clarke and Ben Walker and popular songwriting double-act O’Hooley & Tidow.
